Hi
So, first, three very good deals:
1. The Lenovo Y580 now for 930$ with 16GB mSSD, 1TB HDD and a blu-ray player and the usual – GTX660M, I7-3630QM, backlit keyboard, nice 1080p screen (glossy) and Windoes OS.
2. The HP dv7t-7000 for 975$ including GT 650M GDDR5, I7-3630QM, backlit keyboard, blu-ray player and a 2 years warranty. And Windows OS. That’s a very good 17.3″ deal!
3. The HP dv6t-7000 for 850$. Though more expensive than before, it also comes with much more features – 750GB Hybrid HDD + 32GB mSSD, backlit keyboard and a good matte 1080p screen along with an I5-3210M and a GT 650M GDDR5.
Secondly, the 1000$ gaming laptops recommendations have now a new design which I believe is more clear. Any thoughts?

seriously enough with the fuckin lenovo and hp, we know is the best bang for your money but enough is enough, all about samsung ati 8870m now and ultra portable laptops
please explain
Where did you see a 8870M?
I kind of agree. I’ve been seeing the HP and Lenovo around this site and Reddit so often! But I cannot trust HP’s build quality/heating and I’m not that fond of Lenovo’s aesthetics. However, I’m quite set on this laptop: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+Series+7+15.6%22+Laptop+-+8GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive+-+Titan+Silver/6774657.p?id=1218806576740&skuId=6774657
It was recently lowered from $1000 to $900 this week and the 640m graphics card in it seems pretty feasible. From what I’ve read, you can overclock this one to output similar performance to a 650m.
1. Why you can’t trust Lenovo or HP build quality?
2. Note that the 1000$ recommendations are for laptops under 1000$ and these HP / MSI GEs (which I cannot find for reasonable price almost at all), Dell, Asus and Lenovo are currently the best in this price range. Several reviews confirm that.
The only thing I didn’t check is the build quality of the inner parts – if I had a laptop I could rip and check it would be great.
3. About HP – many people have used the dv6 in recent years. The last iterations of the dv6, with the AMD A8 and Radeon 6750M and also the 7690M are really good. Many users over notebookreview forums will confirm that.
4. This Samsung and GT 640M – yes, the 640M GDDR5 can be easily overclocked in many cases and also the 650M can be OC’ed to the level of 660M and above. Also, the 670MX can be easily CO’ed. I guess all the Kepler GPUs are like that.
This Samsung, however, has nothing special as far as I see. Why buy it? other Samsung in this price range didn’t present any special effects.
5. Saying that, I would be really glad to know which laptops are interesting for you so I might review them!!!
1. Sorry if I didn’t say it clearly enough, but I like the build quality of Lenovos, but I just don’t like they look (preference). It was HP that I had some bad experiences with. I had one of their recent dv4 series laptops and there are many heat problems with this laptop and other laptops as seen on forums.
2. I completely agree that those are some of the best bang-for-buck deals for laptops in that price range!
3. Same as 1.
4. When I tried out the Samsung, the build quality was fantastic and the portability is excellent! It’s a 15″ laptop with practically the chassis of a 14″ with HUGE battery life (8 cell battery) to boot compared to other 15″ laptops. Also, it has a matte screen with a decent resolution. I haven’t found any other laptop with the graphics I want (640m or higher) along with a battery life above 6 hours. It’s impressive for the portability and specs you get for the price.
5. So basically, I’m really into laptops with good battery life, but can still decently play games. I have an Alienware m11x R1 right now (bought it on sale) and I’ve been looking for a laptop that can match or surpass its battery life (I usually get 8 hours) while having better performance.
You are right about the portability. In some of the previous recommendations, I also added this Samsung or one of variations due to the battery thing. However, note that the screen is not one of the best for a 15.6″ in this price range. You can get a higher density battery with other laptops too, it’s just not the default.
Are you getting 8 hours of surfing with the M11X R1???
which recommendations would you add?
I get 8 hours with screen brightness around 20% and with integrated graphics on. About the recommendations, the Samsungs and Acer Timelines seem to be the best battery/performance balance, but the Acer build quality is iffy.
with 20% and larger battery, no?
This specific Acer build quality should be good according to reviews
If you’ll look on other Samsungs from related series, you’ll see that the build quality and things like cooling system aren’t better than competitors. But I’ll check again and add recommendation
Thanks!
Nice design for the $1000 section. Do you mind redesigning the $600 section, cause I’ll be checking that section every day for two months (when I get my laptop).
Thanks.
The 600$ section has less information. Is it that unclear? If you think, I’ll change it
Yea nevermind, it looks good
