MSI GP62MVR Reviews

The new MSI GP62MVR is now selling for $900 ($1000 – $100 rebate), making it an interesting choice. It’s relatively lightweight at 2.2kg (basic configuration probably, without PSU) and has a GTX 1060 3GB version GPU, I7-6700HQ CPU, 1x8GB 2133MHZ DDR4 RAM, 1TB 7200RPM HDD and an “IPS-level” display which might just be an IPS display (according to Tomshardware, it is indeed an IPS).

The GP62MVR has a mDP port and a USB type-C port, so connection ports selection is ok. The GTX 1060 3GB should be very close in performance to the GTX 1060GB 6GB version, although having lower cores count. GSync is not included in this model.

I’d say that this is probably a very basic machine, but for $900 this is a very good option and comes with an OS. The Clevo P650RP6 is sometimes selling for $1100-$1200 and I think it is better for $1100.

  1. Clevo P650RP6 – which has a GSync version (the “-G” variant), has a lot more connection and storage ports and probably a better cooling system.
  2. Asus GL502VM – available for $1200-$1250 on eBay/Amazon
  3. MSI GE62VR – Amazon
  4. Gigabyte P55Wv6 – same

Typo in title says ssd instead of hdd, you got me really excited there!

    • sorry! Actually, it’s not such a great deal. This BF has been slow..
If you can install stuff yourself (OS, HDD, RAM), there are nicer deals

It’s back on sale just for today on Newegg for 1079.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16834154373. Would you mine saying what some of the nicer deals are? I can install my own SSD, but none of the other competitors you mentioned go that low in price. If I put in a SATA III (Samsung Evo 850) would it still be slow (and what does BF stand for here)?

Oh, and the version with 8 GB is $1049 – $100 rebate=$949. Any clue if the build quality and temps are ok though? Any other technical reviews (aside from the tomshardware one)?

          • Well, better get the $950 version, but the Asus FX502VM was $900 with 16GB..
