this is the review.

The review unit is for the HP g6t-2200 specific model with Intel B980 and Radeon 7670M. Now the HP g6t-2200 available comes with the Intel I3-3110M + Radeon 7670M combination, no choice there. This is actually a good combination for a sub-500$ gaming laptop as you get the HD4000 integrated GPU (with lower clocks) that will handle simple tasks of video playback. The Radeon 7670M, on its end, will give you the gaming power you need for moderate gaming.

According to the review, the temperatures of the g6t-2200 are actually very good, maxing 30C under full load – these are excellent readings and are much better than other laptops, like the Acer V3-551G with AMD A10 and Radeon 7670M too (review) or the Lenovo Z585 with A10-4600M and Radeon 7670M too (review).

Moreover, the 768p display, however still only not high quality, do have very good sRGB color coverage and high contrast making it even more interesting as even higher priced laptops with 768p (that sometimes even sold as a “premium” laptops) are of a lesser quality.

That’s all. I really think that currently, the HP g6t-2200 is a very good option and probably my favorite under 500$. For more options, please check the sub 500$ gaming laptops recommendations. Note that I still listed the HP dv6z-7200 which is still a very good option and probably more feature-rich, only the total price is above 500$ including tax and shipping.

Just wanted a laptop that can play some decent games and watch movies. I play mostly league of legends. Also wanted to play some of the free steam games, like TF2, firefall, etc. Would this laptop be enough?

    • junky says:

yes, it would be enough. I think it will run LoL on high settings at least. TF2 shouldn’t be a problem too. Although, you have to understand that you’d probably get medium settings in most games and for heavy games you’ll need to set the graphics to something close to “low” settings sometimes.

What games would be considered heavy? Right now I’m mostly interested on getting a laptop that can play almost all games without it begging for mercy. I’d like it to still be able to play games that comes out within several more years. I don’t really mind playing them on low setting, as long as they are not lagging.

This price is excellent. Do you believe there is a way to find that sort of deal in a physical store ?
I will be in LA around christmas and I’m a foreigner, so I don’t have any other address than my hotel.
Do you have any street stores to recommend in the south California area ?
    Thank you.
