COUPON: SHOP75

This is basically the same model as the 15z-j000, only updated with Windows 8.1.

The new lower end high performance gaming laptop from HP. Quite interesting, as you can get the 1080p screen and Radeon 8750M for 610$ (before tax and shipping) and I guess there will be better deals. The 15z does not include a DVD/BR and the weight is 4.58lbs which is less than 2.1lbs, making it a very compelling laptop. The Radeon 8750M should perform around the GT 730M to GT 740M, depends on the drivers and game.

Choose:

1. “AMD Radeon HD 8750M + HD 8000 Series Dual Graphics”

2. The  (1920×1080) display (it’s the second option)

3.  Choose the 6GB DDR3 option

4. Add to cart and use coupon SHOP75

      thanks!

      what are you looking for?

      • Nick

Something for moderate gaming not breaking 700 with a 1920×1080 screen. Preferably new.

        • can you install OS yourself?

          • Nick

            No.

            • what kind of games?

              • Nick

Mainly strategy. I would also like to try DayZ.

                • DayZ standalone is rather heavy currently (only alpha stage though)

For $700 there aren’t many good options currently. You might want to wait for some deal or save some more money. The $800 -$900 is much more cost effective

                  • Nick

I will save more and check back to see what other deals come out.

                    • good, waiting to hear from you!

I am looking for something in this price-range. I currently have an Asus K55N-DB81 that I’m using for school/gaming. It’s okay but I really would prefer a 15.6″ 1920×1080 screen and a little more graphical oomph. I work at a local PC shop that sells Lenovo’s and I’m waiting to see if I can get a Y510p for a better price but that’s way outta budget atm. Any suggestions in the $500-600 range? I fix a lot of HP’s..more than any other brand. Probably because there’s more out there than most but I see far more failures with them regardless. Makes me hesitant to jump on this bandwagon.

    • maybe indeed it’s because there are a lot more

How much oomph do you need? what kind of gaming?

      • Kursah

Well I’m mostly doing RTS games, SupCom FA and 2, Planetary Annihilation, Wargames ALB, etc. All need some Processor and CPU power. My APU is taxed by FA, Wargames and PA at 768P. I do a little Skyrim here and there, some Borderlands 2 and Rust as well. I don’t expect to run everything maxed out, but medium and even high settings would be nice, but more than that is what my main home PC is for.

I really just want a 15.6″ 1920×1080 matte screen laptop with decent cpu/gpu power, decent battery life (~5hrs should do), etc. I use it for school primarily, then work, then gaming. It travels a lot with me…my Asus K55N has been great overall…but there are so many times i wish I could have it’s 768p performance in 1080p. I’ve researched replacing this screen…not much to be found and I can’t afford nor have time to play guinea pig with it. Thanks for your response!

        • the 15z-j100 will have a significant higher gaming power, but the 1080p display is not that good.

I would suggest waiting for a deal like this one :

          http://www.gaminglaptopsjunky.com/refurbished-dell-latitude-15-3000-15-6-gaming-laptop-i5-4200u-cpu-radeon-8850m-gddr5-gpu-gt-750m-gtx-760m-4gb-ddr3-anti-glare-1080p-screen-good-thermals-and-battery-performance-for-500/

if you’ll wait enough time you should be able to find some nice deal – like this one or some other deal

          • Kursah

I’ve been watching that one for the last few days. I can wait. Honestly the resolution would just make life easier for me and my programming, CCNA classes, etc where I need mult windows open and want to be able to have them all split on the screen and still be able to read the content width-wise. 768p just falls too short. I figure well if I get a laptop at that resolution hopefully I can get one that has at least comparable performance to this K55N at 768P. This Asus has been solid, I love it. It’s no speed demon, but for the $370 I paid back in August 2013 it’s been an extremely solid value. I can’t believe how much the price has increased on it!

I’ll keep an eye for a sub $500 sale on the Dell 3540 series for sure. Hopefully a sale and extra savings code will line up soon! I can live with what I have until then! Or until something else comes up.

            • you can subscribe and I’ll post some good $600 deal when I’ll see it!

You can also try and call them to get some deal

              • Kursah

                Subscribed! 🙂
I will keep my eyes peeled! Thanks all!

            • sometimes there are other deals, but currently I haven’t seen one. I’m sure there will be though

  • KisterTheGreat

Hey, on the website, they have a smart buy deal going on that replaces the regular A8 processor with the A10-5750M. It costs $40 more but I think it would be a better deal considering I play games like Bioshock Infinite and Darksiders 2. They also have one with the Intel i5 4200 M, it doesn’t come with the dedicated GPU though. Which would you recommend?

  • Flynn

Junky, what do you think of this deal at Sam’s club? http://www.samsclub.com/sams/hp-envy-15-j006cl-intel-core-i7-4700mq/prod11370933.ip?pid=_Aff_LS&siteID=VJQZNxQ9nek-khUBiDeu2wNsZx7H7Vtdug

They are knocking $200 off during November. It doesn’t have a dedicated graphics card, but all the other specs look good, and I’ve heard decent things about the Intel HD graphics 4600.

    Good deal?

  • widget101

HP Smartbuy on this includes the A10-5750M with 8750M and 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, and backlit keyboard for 530$ — it comes with the 768p screen though.

    • yea, I saw this one and will add it. It is a good option for ~$500. the problem, besides the screen which is no different compared to other $500 laptops, is that you’d have to add tax and shipping..

      Thanks !!

  • jmde

Seems like there’s a 20% off envy quad core laptops coupon code: http://www.retailmenot.com/view/shopping.hp.com?c=4926906

Brings the price down to 544$

    • jmde

      just kidding. 😐

    • BIG THANKS.
I actually saw it, but forgot the 15z is a ‘quad envy’. My mistake and thanks again

EDIT: seems like it is not for the 15z

  • Gesepp

With the coupon code SVD8492 instead, you can save around $30, instead of just 20.

    • thanks, I’ll update

Can you give me some options? I want to play hitman absolution and I can’t go for desktop. Which laptop within 700$ will be best for me that can run hitman abs at med-high settings?

    • For 700$, you won’t get a laptop with 1080p screen that will run Hitman on high settings and 1080p res.

  • Sirius
    • This model is not cost efficient. You have the 6622 which has the same performance, for 600$-630$. Did you check the “under 600$ gaming laptops”?
      http://www.gaminglaptopsjunky.com/gaming-laptops-under-600/

      • Sirius

Yeah, i’ve seen it now. Actually i want a laptop that’d let me play games like hitman absolution at med-high settings. I’m not sure whether the hp 15z can do that. And also it doesn’t have an optical drive while i intend to reboot the laptop to windows 7. I don’t if i can reboot it with an external optical drive

        • don’t think the 15z can do that – maybe meduim. The 6622 would run it much better, but that’s mainly because the resolution is much lower 768p = 2 times lower pixel count

          • Sirius

            • used / refurbished goes? 700$ including tax/shipping?

The 700$ segment is currently neglected actually and Hitman is quite heavy according to benchmarks. You can get reasonable performance, but no for high settings, probably, unless you’re going 768p screen, which I suggest you won’t.

    wrong link, dude.
