Hi. Recently my very old PC has started to play up a bit, it’s been doing well for the past 8 years but it’s time for a change. The ease of use with laptops is what I’m currently looking for, as you can’t really take a tower around with you if you’re to go somewhere in a hurry 😛
I’ve been trying to find some decent enough gaming laptops but my searches always end up getting more and more expensive.
I’ve been eyeballing the OMEN 17 but the £1,899.99 price tag is a tough pill to chew. Realistically I’m looking to spend up to £1200~. It’ll be used intensively for gaming and just hardcore use in general & I’d much prefer a 17″ screen if possible.
If anyone has any suggestions for a good laptop for that price range, or can guide me in the right direction on getting one built for that price range, it’ll be much appreciated.August 12, 2017 at 12:31 pm #146562
Hi and welcome!
Can you specify more precisely what kind of performance you are looking for? I’m asking because : (a) there are $800 gaming laptops and there are $1500 gaming laptops and (b) you had a very old pc which was probably not nearly as fast as a $1000 gaming laptop today
Also – do you need an OS preinstalled? can you install an SSD and clone an OS? Can you order from the US or another EU country?August 12, 2017 at 1:56 pm #146563
Hey Junky, thanks.
Ideally something towards the GTX 1060, 1070 if possible within price range. And an i7 core, maybe 7700K if that’s possible.
I don’t really need an OS preinstalled but I’m not really that technically advanced to install an SSD and clone an OS. Though if doing that will mean it’ll be cheaper then I’m sure I can learn about doing so.
Preferably I’d want to order from the UK or at least a western EU country, but It’s not a necessity.August 12, 2017 at 2:28 pm #146564
I mean, what games? or it doesn’t matter?August 12, 2017 at 3:52 pm #146565
I’m not really sure atm. I’d like to play some Of the newer AAA games at max or very high at least.August 12, 2017 at 5:02 pm #146566

- Clevo option with a GTX 1070 – link
- Refurbished HP Omen with GTX 1070 – link
- Another Clevo from PCSpecalist, configurable : https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/defianceIII-15/
What do you think?
Actually those first two links you posted seem pretty damn good. Thanks Junky!August 13, 2017 at 1:20 pm #146569

Hey Junky. Just thought I owed it to you to let you know what’s happened.
I decided to wait a bit for the black friday sales and after much deliberation I managed to up my budget to £1500. Managed to get a Medion Erazer x7853 for £1550.
Thanks for your help, this forum is great and I did learn quite a bit here. Wish you all the best mate.November 20, 2017 at 7:41 pm #146703
