Eurocom Sky X4E2

Coupon ED0930SKY4E2‎ = 10% off + unlocked bios + delidded CPU

The Eurocom Sky X4E2 (Clevo P750DM2-G) is now on sale from Eurocom. This laptop and coupon is meant for the more performance oriented gamers. An unlocked bios that allows OCing and a delidded CPU that should result in a considerable lower temperatures – an advantage when it comes to laptops, especially as hot as the high performance Clevo P750DM2. The price in the title is for the specific configuration that includes an I7-7700K CPU (+$95) and a GTX 1070 (+$96) upgrades.

A delidded I7-7700K and a GTX 1070 should result in a very good performance, with the CPU suffering less from the heat. Performance should be higher in some cases than competitors with a basic HQ CPU (I7-6700HQ/7700HQ) thanks to the better thermals and faster CPU. My recommendation is actually to either get an I5-7600K CPU which will reduce around $172 compared to this configuration or, if you need an I7, stay with the I7-6700K. Also, I’d suggest talking to Eurocom, asking them to include the I7-7700K without extra price.

The GTX 1070 is an MXM GPU, and it should be possible to upgrade in the future, given the right bios update.

The X4E2 has an ample connection ports selection, with a Thunderbolt 3 port, 2xmDP 1.3, HDMI 2.0, 2xNVMe, as well as 2.5″ SATA bay. The 120HZ 1080p TN display is an optional free upgrade, but I wouldn’t recommend it for those who want high quality display in terms of colors coverage and accuracy.

Overall, this is a very good machine with lots of upgrade options, very good performance and lower price than the competitors (check). However, remember that a CPU upgrade to the 8th generation Intel CPUs is not an option with current chipset (at least for now), so if that’s you want, then better wait, but keep in mind that it shouldn’t really bring significantly higher gaming performance, if at all, for current games.
