For 800$, the Y500 offers a very good value for your money, with good 1080p screen (same as the Y580), good sound, very good gaming performance with the I7 and GT 750M and currently it is the fastest under 850$ including Windows OS.

The IBuyPower CZ-17 is based on the 17.3″ MSI GT70 gaming laptop and has generally the same traits and generally good quality. For 1330$ this is a very good deal for a gaming performance that not long ago you’d get for 100$-150$ more. The highlights are the GTX 675MX + I7 performance, 16GB DDR3 memory and a Blu-ray reader (DVDRW) which make this model shine above the current competitors. If you are looking for a 17.3″ gaming laptop around this price range, this is an excellent choice.

The thermals are ok, although when fully taxed with GPU and CPU loaded, you might see some small throttling – but probably not.

Note: The newer model with GT 750M SLI is now available through Lenovo site. This model should have some good advantage over the one with the GT 650Ms model in many cases.

A Very good deal and you can really get a better gaming performance for this price, but see also the I5 version of Y500 which I think more cost effective. Note that you can buy it with the ultrabay (which includes an additional GT 650M) from retailers or you can buy the Y500 from Lenovo and the ultrabay separately, also from Lenovo – Use B&N gold discount.

You should know that there in some of the shipped laptops there is a problem with the trackpad which is not stable. Probably fixed in later shipped ones. It should not be too much a problem since for gaming you’ll be using a mouse and in the worst case the laptop can be return, but still.

You get dual GT 650M GDDR5 GPU, I7-3630QM, 8GB DDR3, 1TB HDD and a glossy 1080p. This is actually an excellent deal and in terms of performance, you get most of the time a gaming performance between the GTX 670MX and the 675MX, which is excellent, see review.

The battery performance is so-so, but as far as gaming laptop goes – this Y500 has an excellent value per money ratio!

This is the newer Y500 model, with GT 750M SLI compared to the GT 650M SLI. The GT 750M is clocked about 15-25% higher than the GT 650M (depends, in practice, on the Turbo boost function). This means a maximum of 25% performance advantage over the previous model for about the same price addition. So, it is about as cost effective as the previous model. You cannot get higher gaming performance than that for its price and this is easily the fastest gaming laptop for the money up to 1200$.

However, this is not the only advantage. The newer Y500 includes also a <del>matte anti-glare which is a very welcomed change over the older Y500 and Y580 glossy screens</del> currently glossy 1080p – which is very disappointing although people say and say it seems like it has some anti-glare coating. This specific model also includes 16GB of DDR3 memory and a 16GB mSSD cache drive. Add to this the good JBL sound and you get a complete package is very very appealing.

It remains to be seen how the newer Y500 acts in the in-depth reviews, but it should be OK. One issue with the Y500 is the battery performance which was relatively low compared to other gaming laptops due to the Lenovo SLI implementation – might be fixed now.

If you are looking for the fastest gaming machine up to 1100$-1200$ with a Windows OS and 1080p screen – this one is definitively for you.

There should be more models with GT 750M SLI configuration later on, so if you want to save some money and get the excellent performance, I suggest you wait a bit.

The new FangBook is based, I believe, on the MSI GT70 barebone, same some of the higher end 17,3″ “Force” laptops XoticPC offer. For 1335$ with a GTX 675MX, I7, the usual 1080p screen and also a Windows OS you get a lot for your money.

There is an additional free 500GB external HDD if you buy from CyberPower – but you better check first if it’s worth it (tax/shipping)

A little more about this laptop – it is of good build quality and has a pretty good cooling system according to reviews. I believe it is the best Nvidia-based deal for a 17.3″ gaming laptop currently.

The MSI GT60-0NE is the high end model MSI has to offer. The GT60 is based on the same barebone as some other machine (XoticPC Force, iBuyPower Valkyrie and more).

This specific GT60 model noticeable features are the GTX 680M, blu-ray player, 2-year warranty and the fact that you can get it for 1750$-1800$ including Windows shipping (and earn some cashback points from J&R). Although some other laptops with a GTX 680M GPU cost less, with this MSI GT60 you get the Windows OS copy, blu-ray burner, 12GB DDR3 1600MHZ and a 2-year warranty, so if you want all these extras, the price is actually very good for a 15.6″ high end gaming laptop. If you want a 17.3″, there are other deals.

I’ve already wrote about the new and interesting Samsung Series 7 line. This one is the 17.3″ version – the 770z7e. The 770z7e quite light for a 17.3″ gaming laptop – only 3kg including the battery - this is often the weight of 15.6″ gaming laptops of about the same power and lower battery performance.

The battery performance is very good too, compared to the 17.3″competitors – 5 hours surfing through WiFi, 10 hours idling, and I estimate something between for light work. Build quality is good enough, very comfortable keyboard, thermals are ok (might get hot) and sound quality is good too.

One more interesting part is the 1080p screen with very good viewing angles, although being a TN panel, very high 1:900 contrast included too. The viewing angles is a disadvantage of many many TN equipped laptops and the 770z7e is very calming in that manner.

Finally, the gaming performance is an I7+Radeon 8870M gaming performance which is averagely a GTX 670M performance with current drivers, but the 770z7e suffer from CPU throttling which has visible negative affect the gaming performance – at least in the NBC test sample. I’d suggest using a cooling pad, in case you encounter such problems.

As a portable 17.3″ gaming laptop there aren’t many competitors right now. Actually, the only ones that I’d really consider in this price range are the HP dv7t and Dell Inspiron 17R SE and they are both either less powerful, have lower quality screen, not as lightweight and are not as cost effective.

Here is a GX60 review. In short: Besides the good performance and standard good 1080p screen, the GX60 is quite cool, includes mSata connectors and can last 5 hours on one battery charge surfing the web

In terms of performance, the MSI GX60 worth the 1100$-1200$, especially since it includes a Windows OS. Although the A10-4600M is limiting the gaming performance, in 3D high settings (otherwise, why by such a laptop), the gaming performance usually set around the 670MX and 675MX, which is excellent.

Probably the best gaming laptops in this price range in terms of gaming performance to the price, including an 1080p screen. There is also an I7 version (which I think is less cost effective) – details here

You get dual GT 650M GDDR5 GPU, I5-3230M which certainly suffice for gaming, 6GB DDR3, 1TB HDD and a nice glossy 1080p. This is actually an excellent deal and in terms of performance, you get most of the time a gaming performance between the GTX 670MX and the 675MX, which is excellent, see review.

The battery performance is so-so, but as far as gaming laptop goes – this Y500 has an excellent value per money ratio and I truly suggest buying it.

The MSI GE60 is not the fastest for this price (the <a title="Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 15.6″ gaming laptop, *Dual* (!) All in all you get a very good laptop:

The good matte FullHD screen found in the higher end model GT60. Very good viewing angles compared to the Y500 screen, which is also a glossy one.

The GT 650M GDDR5 GPU + I5 CPU ensures good gaming performance.

7200RPM 750GB HDD

Not too heavy with only 2.6kg – not lightweight but compared to the 3kg competitors it can be a plus for some.

Windows 7

A good deal for the MSI GE60. With an I5-3230M and the GT 650M GDDR5 you get a good performance. The 7200RPM HDD is a good plus compared to many other laptops with 5400RPM HDDs. But one important bright light in the GE60 is the good matte 1080p screen and especially the good viewing angles (again, compared to the competition) which makes it a very good choice for those who appreciate it and gives it an advantage over the Y500 which is a hard competition due to the good gaming performance with the GT 650M SLI option.

If you want more gaming performance, you should go with the Y500, if you are ok with a high midrange gaming performance and you prefer the matte screen, the GE60 is a more reasonable option.

The GT70 is a very good gaming laptop with good performance, very good thermals , matte 1080p screen and a good build quality.

You get very high gaming performance for the money with I7-3630QM, GTX 670MX which is about the same level of GTX 675M only consumes less power and is a better overclocker. 12G DDR3, 750GB 7200RPM HDD, including Windows OS. Additional features are the Blu-ray player, the Killer network adapter and the backlit keyboard and good 2.1 sound, making it a very good allrounder. For 1300$-1350$ it’s a good deal for a 17.3″ gaming laptop.

Use coupon code EUROCOM-GLJ-RACER50 to get rid of 50$ off final price.

The Eurocom Racer 2.0 is based on the Clevo P150EM barebone, just like the Sager NP9150. You can configure it with a GTX 660M GPU and up including the GTX 670MX (which is the default GPU), Radeon 7970M (which is a very cost effective upgrade). The default configuration will cost you 1310$, including a GTX 670MX, AUO B156HW1 V.4 (95% adobeRGB gamut coverage), 500GB Seagate Hybrid HDD and I7-3630QM. That’s actually a good price if you consider the extra value you get for your money compared to gaming laptops priced the same – the excellent matte screen and Hybrid HDD (or 128GB Crucial m4 SSD).

You can also configure it with an I7-3610QM and choose a lower priced 1080p matte screen and that will save you around 100$.

I do suggest considering the Radeon HD 7970M since this specific upgrade is a cost effective one in this case.
