Budget GTX 1060 gaming laptops recommendations

Hi all!

(For those who are looking for a gaming laptop under $1000, please check this post)

The Pascal-based Nvidia GTX 1060 GPU is very popular, fast and relatively cost effective. We already see the second generation of laptops that are equipped with it, which are mostly the same only with the 7th generation Intel CPUs. Currently, a GTX 1060 GPU in laptops come in two variations – the 3GB and 6GB. The difference between them is mostly the VRAM amount. The 3GB VRAM will be mostly sufficient for 1080p gaming, but newer games tend to count on higher VRAM amount.

The following recommendations are for the lower cost side of gaming laptops with GTX 1060. This is a very general table. It will not include detailed reviews at all, only pour in the basic specs and drawbacks/advantages. Some of them aren’t that cheap compared to the cheapest options, but have some more unique characteristics.

Only SSD, probably you’d want more storage capacity,  no GSync

High temps and throttling, Build quality average (like many others), no GSync Wifi performance isn’t great, High price, no Thunderbolt 3, no GSync
Advantages Cheap, mDP + NVMe ports Cheap, ok thermals Relatively cheap for I7 + 1060 6GB, good IPS display (vs Y720), mDP v1.3, USB 3.1 Type-C, lower weight Relatively cheap, good thermals Relatively cheap and feature-rich Thunderbolt 3, low on weight and dimensions 500GB SSD default, long battery running times (96Wh battery), colors, temps surprising given the small size, 1440p IPS display

OK. This is more or less the current situation. Ofcourse, there are many other laptops with GTX 1060, but they are either more expensive with no clear advantages or not worth it like the Alienware 15R3. There are some other options, some with GSync, especially from Clevo, which are interesting, but with OS and stuff it will come to $1300-$1400. This list is specifically for the lower prices.
